THE PROS AND CONS OF ELIMINATING PERFORMANCE REVIEWS

The drumbeat on "getting rid of performance reviews" seems to be growing louder, with several prominent companies – Microsoft and Gap among them – that have done just that.  But there are pitfalls and consequences to eliminating the performance review.

Attend this session to hear Cliff Stevenson of I4CP share his findings from 3 different research initiatives regarding Performance Management practices.

We will also look to hear from the entire group and learn from each other as to what our organizations are doing with regards to the topic of Performance Management.

Some topics of discussion will include:

  • The drawbacks of dropping performance ratings and formal reviews.
  • What is replacing the performance review
  • Issues related to gathering alternative feedback from a variety of sources (peers, co-workers, customers)
Background on our featured speaker:  Cliff Stevenson is a human capital research analyst whose work has been focused heavily on performance management, data and analytics, core HR/workforce management functions, innovation and creativity, international management, as well as recruitment, acquisition, retention, and attrition.  Before joining Brandon Hall Group and i4cp, he was the head of HR for a consulting firm in Boston.  Cliff received his MS in Organizational Development from Suffolk University and BA in Psychology from the University of South Florida.  He has been published or appeared in Talent Management Magazine, Human Resources Executive, Businessweek, Fortune magazine, the Washington Post, Business Insider and many other publications.  He is the author of dozens of reports and articles and wrote "The Real Dollar Value of Employee Engagement" in ATD's Integrated Talent Management Scorecards (2013), and "The Age of Big Data and Talent Analytics" in ATD's Talent Management Handbook (2015).
