OD-SIG: What do we mean when we say "OD Perspective"

  • October 07, 2016
  • 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • National Louis University, 5110 Eisenhower Boulevard South, Tampa, FL

In planning this session, we talked about viewing topics from different perspectives. How is the lens of an OD person different from that of a trainer, an HR generalist, a line manager.

This session is a step toward sorting out and clarifying the question "What does an OD lens provide?"

We'll start with a presentation/discussion on how the history of OD has shaped our perspective - what we look at and look for as either internal or external OD consultants. We'll do this with help from a recent paper on the "History and future of OD" which our colleague and friend Russ Barnes prepared in his course work at Benedictine College. (He's working toward a PhD in OD. He can't attend our session, but we'll be sharing his thoughts.)

Next, we'll use a "values sorting" process, which can include learning from classic and contemporary books on OD, and from related academic disciplines... where it gets both messy AND interesting.

Our gatherings are participatory: please do some pre-thinking about what and who has informed your lens for viewing organizations. (See below.)

Hope to see you and hear about your perspectives on October 7.

PS: bring your ideas for future sessions. Thanks!
